I prefer to turn local woods, Elm, Ash, Sycamore, and Oak are my favourites but I have turned more exotic woods. I also like to turn natural edge bowls.
I prefer faceplate turning to between centre turning as I feel that it enables one to explore and develop the natural beauty of the wood.
I have a Poolewood 28/40 lathe and can turn
up to 16" diameter above the bed but much larger when I swivel the
headstock.
